American Songs Inspired by American Women Poets
Art Song is a style of classical chamber music that fuses poetry and music, typically composed for voice and piano. The genre reached its zenith in 19th century Europe, but has continued to flourish throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, particularly with many fine examples by American composers.
This guided listening workshop will delve into the extraordinary works of American women poets including Emily Dickinson, Edna St. Vincent Millay and local poet Lisa DeSiro. We will explore the imagery and insights which have inspired composers past and present to set their words to music.
